McGuinness Media is hiring a Junior Web Developer for our Warwick, RI office. We are actively a thoughtful problem-solver who enjoys working with web technologies and wants to grow their skills in a practical, fun environment.
Who you are
You’re curious, methodical, and care about understanding how things work. You think critically about problems rather than throwing code at the wall and hoping it sticks. You ask good questions. You don’t just copy-paste solutions without understanding them first. You’re comfortable saying “I don’t know, but I’ll figure it out.”
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be supporting our day-to-day web operations: fixing bugs, updating content, implementing client requests, and keeping sites running smoothly. We maintain a variety of older sites that use page builders like Divi, Elementor, and WP Bakery, but everything we’ve built since 2024 uses custom, purpose-built themes. You’ll work across both types of projects, troubleshoot issues as they come up, and contribute to full site development.
What you need to know
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: You should be comfortable with the fundamentals
- Responsive design principles: You understand how to build sites that work across multiple device types
- Browser dev tools: You know how to inspect, debug, and troubleshoot in the browser
- How to read & understand existing code: You can jump into someone’s work and figure out what’s happening
- Communication skills: You can explain technical issues in plain language and collaborate with the team
What will make you stand out
Experience or familiarity with any of these is a plus, but we’re happy to help you learn:
- PHP for WordPress development – working with WordPress functions, hooks, and custom theme architecture
- Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)
- Git and GitHub for version control
- WP Engine hosting experience
- Local development environments (Local WP, MAMP, etc.)
- Basic WordPress security and performance best practices
- Web accessibility fundamentals (WCAG, ADA)
- Working from design files (Figma, Adobe XD, etc.)
- MySQL/database basics
- SEO principles as they relate to development
